Residence Hall Break Extension Requests
Ó£»¨¶¯Âþ residence halls close for all major break periods. Students are ONLY permitted to stay in their residence hall room if they have an approved break extension. The following is a list of reasons why a break extension is typically approved by Residence Life & Housing:
- Financial need
- Medical emergencies/accommodations
- Travel emergencies (change of flight, weather delay)
- International student travel
- Academic requirement
Important Considerations
A fee of $50/night is applied for contract extensions (Late Stays or Early Arrivals). There is an $100 per week charge for approved Winter Break Housing. Students who are staying over break due to demonstrated financial need may be able to request to have this charge waived within their request.
If you are not approved for a break extension, it is expected that you will not be within the closed residence halls during the break periods. Please plan accordingly.
As you are planning to stay, please be mindful that the University is closed during break periods. All campus offices including dining services, mail services, and shuttle services will have limited to no availability throughout breaks. Campus Police is available 24/7 during breaks for emergencies at 410-617-5911 and non-emergencies at 410-617-5010.
Departmental Break Extension Sponsorship
A department/office may sponsor a student for a qualified break extension.
Before every break period, Residence Life & Housing collects information from offices and departments across the University who may need students to be available to maintain their operations. For those departments requesting break extensions for undergraduate students, please contact Residence Life & Housing at residencelife@loyola.edu for the excel spreadsheet so you can list all students that you are requesting to remain in their on-campus residence hall assignment. Please ensure that your email requests are sent from your official Loyola email address. Further instructions will be given upon receipt of your request.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding break extensions, please contact Residence Life & Housing at 410-617-5081 no later than the deadline listed for the specific break period.
