Campus Locks

There are several different types of locking hardware throughout our campuses. See how to secure offices and classrooms below.

Campus Offices

This video shows how a standard office door lock works.

Cylindrical Locks

The lock in the above video is a cylindrical lock with a lever handle. We also have some cylindrical locks with knob handles. The outside handle is locked by pushing in and rotating the inside button clockwise or by using a key on the outside handle.

Deadbolt Locks

Deadbolts are usually installed above the handle or knob and can be secured from inside the room by using the thumb turn.

Mortise Locks

A classroom mortise lock has an outside lever that can be secured by one of two buttons under the latch. This video shows how it works.

In some locations, there is a deadbolt with a thumb turn above the mortise locks which do not have the buttons under the latch.

Campus Classrooms

Our classrooms have a combination of mortise, cylindrical, deadbolt, and electrified locks. Electrified locks are monitored and controlled from our Communications Center. All other classroom locks can be secured at the door from inside (cylindrical or deadbolt) or just under the latch (mortise).

Panic Hardware

Areas that hold larger groups of people have panic hardware installed on the doors. This hardware allows for ease of egress in the event of an emergency. There are additional locks on the panic bars so that the door can be locked from the inside. Turn the thumb latch clockwise until you hear the internal mechanism click. The video shows how one of the locks work in the Knott Hall Amphitheater.
